Za’atar (pronounced “Zahtar”) is a traditional Middle Eastern spice blend which can be found throughout the region. It is so common in the Middle East, that it can be found on kitchen tables in the same way that salt and pepper are so ubiquitously found on the American kitchen tables. Folks in the Middle East use it on everything from meats to vegetables to breads. In fact, one of our favorite simple recipes is to take some pita bread and add a mixture of olive oil and Za’atar to it and bake in the oven. Something so simple, but it will leave you feeling like royalty!
Individually hand-blended from:
Kosher Salt, Sesame Seeds, Sumac, and Thyme.
How this blend is hand-made:
We slow toast the whole Sesame seeds over a fired cast-iron skillet to bring out the spice’s volatile oils. Then, we freshly grind Sumac berries, and hand-blend them together with the other ingredients to produce our Za’atar Blend.
