Senatore Cappelli is a durum wheat variety, selected in 1915 by agronomist Nazareno Strampelli. This authentic Italian grain was dedicated to Marchese Raffaele Cappelli from Abruzzo, Senator of the Italian Kingdom and promoter of the 20th century Agrarian Reform.
One of Italy’s most popular cuts, penne rigate has a wider tube than the original penne (“quills”), but rigate (“with ridges”) on the outside.
We recommend you serve this Senatore Cappelli Penne Rigate with olive oil-based sauces or simple tomato sauce so you may enjoy its flavor and texture. Also ideal for sauces with ground meat or vegetables so that the sauce is trapped in the middle.
